Our lives have taken a turn towards endless suffering and pain. I fail to understand how God can be so cruel to all of us. My granddaughter was born with a rare disease. It is so complicated that she has difficulty breathing and she cannot speak.

How did it all start? When Sujana was born, we were ecstatic. We went around distributing sweets and spreading the good news. But, our happiness did not last long. We noticed that she was crying but she made no noise. We all grew perplexed and called for the doctor. They took her in and ran some tests and scans. It revealed that Sujana was born with a rare disease - Type III Glottic Web. The glottic web is a band of tissues. It was causing difficulty for Sujana to speak due to the folds and later, she started gasping for air. Doctors said, “The webs in her cord are large and therefore they’re blocking her airway. She is having difficulty breathing and will need surgery as soon as possible. If not treated in time, it can be fatal.” The costs for the surgery were estimated at Rs 5 Lakhs or   6600.88$.

Present Sujana is a year old and is breathing with help of a tube. Every time she is at the hospital, she cries out loud in fear and pain. My son and daughter-in-law were met with an accident earlier this year. They’re hospitalized and I am solely taking care of her. Sujana is always looking for her mother and I fail to calm her down. My granddaughter needs help and she needs it now.

Mere coolies- we do not have enough funds to afford her treatment. She is running out of time. Each time I see her, I fear it will be the last.
